VI World Nomad Games Conclude — Hungarian Archers Return with Gold, Silver and Bronze

The VI World Nomad Games concluded in Kyrgyzstan on 6 September after a week of competition involving around 3,000 athletes from more than 100 countries. For European traditional archery, the Games produced several notable results — including three medals for Hungary.

Hanna Décsei won gold in horseback archery, giving Hungary its biggest archery result of the Games. Décsei is an active international horseback archer, and her victory came against a strong international field at Kyrchyn Gorge.

Hungary also took silver through Balázs Vermes in Hungarian-style horseback archery. Vermes competed in a 69-rider field, using an unfamiliar horse and racing in wet, slippery conditions. Áron Fedor finished 18th in the same discipline.

The first Hungarian medal had come on foot. László Koczka won bronze in the Kyrgyz Teke Buta competition, shot at 40 metres. The event attracted more than 200 archers from 51 countries, with Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Zhunusov taking gold.

Other European archers also reached the podium. Poland’s Anna Sokulska took silver in the women’s Kyrgyz-style horseback archery competition, behind Mongolia’s Gunbileg Ganbaatar, in a field of 45 women representing 32 countries.

Beyond archery, Moldova produced one of the stronger results among the smaller European delegations, winning gold and multiple silver medals in arm wrestling. Moldova’s Daniel Procopciuc won gold and silver at 80 kg, while Alexei Sipilov added two silver medals at 90 kg.

At the top of the Games, Kazakhstan and host Kyrgyzstan dominated the medal count, although conflicting final totals have been published and the overall ranking remains disputed. What is clear is that both countries finished far ahead of the rest of the field in total medals.

For Sacred Stag, the Hungarian results stand out: gold, silver and bronze across horseback and traditional ground archery — three medals from three different archery performances at the VI World Nomad Games.
